What is industrial style?
The style comes from warehouses and factories turned into homes (lofts). It shows what an ordinary flat hides: brick, concrete, pipes and steel. You can do it in a regular flat too — a few raw materials are enough.
Colours
Concrete greys, graphite, black, brick red and brown, warmed up by wood and cognac leather.
Materials and furniture
- Brick on one wall (real or brick slips) or architectural concrete.
- Black steel — table frames, shelving, windows and doors.
- Leather — a sofa or armchair in cognac or chocolate.
- Raw or reclaimed wood for tops and shelves.
Decor and lighting
Metal pendant lamps, filament bulbs, swing-arm lamps, old posters and maps, plants in metal pots. Warm, focused light.
How to style an industrial living room — 5 rules
- Choose one raw wall: brick or concrete.
- Add furniture in black steel and wood.
- Use a leather sofa or armchair as the warm accent.
- Keep the space open, without many small things.
- Warm it up with a rug, plants and warm light.
What to avoid
- Only cold materials — without wood and textiles the room feels hostile.
- Too many dark surfaces in a small room.
- Weak lighting — raw materials need good light.

FAQ
Does industrial style work in an ordinary flat?
Yes. One wall of brick slips or concrete-effect paint, furniture in black steel and wood, and metal lamps are enough.
What is the difference between loft and industrial style?
A loft is a kind of home (a former warehouse or factory); industrial style is the way of furnishing that came from lofts. In everyday use the names are interchangeable.
