What is boho style?
Boho (from “bohemian”) is relaxed and eclectic. It mixes things from different places and decades — a wicker chair, a kilim rug, handmade ceramics, old wood — so the room looks collected over years, not bought in a day.
Colours
Warm earth tones: sand, beige, terracotta, rust, mustard and olive green. Walls usually stay light (off-white, warm beige), while textiles and plants bring the colour.
Materials and furniture
- Rattan, wicker and bamboo — chairs, lamps, baskets.
- Jute, sisal and wool — rugs, often layered.
- Linen and cotton — throws, curtains, cushion covers.
- Wood with visible grain, reclaimed wood too.
- Low seating: poufs, floor cushions, a soft sofa.
Decor and lighting
Macramé, cushions with ethnic and geometric patterns, ceramics, baskets and lots of greenery (monstera, fiddle-leaf fig, palms, trailing plants). Warm, diffused light: rattan, paper or linen lamps, string lights, candles.
How to style a boho living room — 5 rules
- Start with light, neutral walls and floor.
- Pick 2–3 earthy lead colours and repeat them in textiles.
- Lay one large jute rug and a smaller patterned one on top.
- Add one rattan or wicker piece as an accent.
- Place plants at several heights: floor, shelf, hanging.
What to avoid
- Too many patterns in one colour — boho is layers, not chaos.
- Cold white light that dulls warm colours.
- Shiny plastic and chrome furniture.

FAQ
Does boho work in a small flat?
Yes, if you keep the walls light and limit the decor. In a small room one patterned rug, a few plants and a light rattan chair work better than many small things.
How is boho different from Scandinavian style?
Both love natural materials and a light backdrop. Scandinavian is simpler and cooler (white, grey, light oak); boho is warmer, more patterned and eclectic.
How can I see boho in my own room?
Upload a photo of your room to Redomium and pick the Boho style. In about a minute you see new furniture, colours and decor, while the walls, windows and perspective stay as in your photo.
